Petróleos Mexicanos’s (Pemex) cut in production of one billion cubic feet of gas per day for five years will call for high dependency on US gas in order to reach Mexican’s extraction rate reached in 2006.

US natural gas exports to Mexico will grow by 30% due to declining natural gas production and rising demand in recent years, Platts Oil said.

Natural gas imports from the United States to Mexico are expected to reach 5.4 Bcf / d by the end of summer, this year. However, that will depend, to a large extent, on the arrival of new infrastructure that will increase transport capacity by approximately 4.1 Bpi / d from one year to the next.

Imports of natural gas rose to 3.7 million cubic feet per day by 2016, a 20% increase over 2015, due largely to new exports along the NET Mexico pipeline in South Texas. To achieve this, the state's productive company has a commitment to reach a production scale of 3.90 million cubic feet per day by 2021, which highly contrasts with the 4 billion cubic feet expected at the end of 2017.
