The Gazprom Neft Scientific and Technical Center together with specialists from Gazpromneft-Khantos and Russian companies have developed a set of engineering solutions to create long-life injection wells. According to preliminary calculations, the service life of new equipment without repair is up to 15 years, which is 4 times higher than traditional indicators. The increase in operating time will not only reduce operating costs, but will also improve the efficiency of field development. The first long-term injection well has already started work at the Yuzhno-Priobskoye field of Gazpromneft-Khantos.

Mining and injection wells are used to develop the fields. Through injection wells, water, gas or reagents are pumped into the formation, displacing oil in the direction of producing wells. Such a development method allows to increase the production volume, “washing away” additional volumes of oil from the reservoir. This is one of the main methods of development of deposits in the Russian oil and gas industry, called “flooding”. However, due to the impact of high loads and an aggressive chemical environment, about once every 3-4 years, the well has to be stopped for repairs, which leads to a reduction in production volumes.

To avoid losses that occur during downtime, Gazprom Neft specialists conducted a test of Russian downhole equipment, whose service life without compulsory repairs should be 15 years. For this, new materials are used in the construction of the well, which are resistant to high pressure and various chemical substances. Also, for additional protection of the structure, special sealing equipment is used – packers (a device for overlapping and isolating individual zones of wells) with additional protective coatings.

In 2018, several long-life wells will be tested at the Yuzhno-Priobskoye field of Gazpromneft-Khantos. The increase in the cost of new structures is completely compensated by additional volumes of production and a decrease in operating costs.

“High reliability and safety are priority areas of our business, enabling the company to be the leader in efficiency at all stages of production. Today domestic producers successfully meet our requirements, offering the best solutions and technologies. The application of new structural approaches to the construction and repair of high-tech injection wells will improve the quality of field development management, “said Alexey Kan, Gazpromneft-Khantos’s General Director.

Gazprom Neft is continuously working to improve the economic efficiency of hydrocarbon production. We reduce operating costs, while simultaneously making a bet on the safety and durability of equipment. To this end, we are actively working with Russian partners who can offer new solutions that meet the company’s needs, “said Director of the Gazprom Neft Technology Directorate, MTS General Director Mars Khasanov.
